Ordering at volume
Three residues is about as cheap as peptide synthesis gets, and the consequence lands straight on the invoice: almost none of the per-vial rate for KPV is the peptide. Glass, stopper, crimp, label, the freeze-drying slot and the labour of filling account for nearly all of it, which makes this one of the flattest ladders in the catalog. Quantity still moves the number, but it moves it less here than on a forty-residue molecule where active material dominates.
KPV is also rarely bought on its own. It appears as one component of a multi-component vial elsewhere in the catalog, and a buyer taking both often wants them shipped together — worth stating on the purchase order, because a blend is quoted as one line however many components it holds. A blend line and a single-compound line never pool their counts toward a break.
It is standard-depth stock in one fill, so its tier is decided by KPV vials alone. On a first delivery, inspect the crimp and the seal rather than the solid inside: there is so little material present that looking at it tells you almost nothing, and the certificate is the document that does the work. What the material is
KPV is a tripeptide — three residues, lysine, proline and valine, named for the one-letter code of that sequence. It is by a wide margin the smallest molecule in this part of the catalog, and it behaves more like a small organic compound than like a chain: freely water-soluble, one basic side chain, no folding to speak of and none of the aggregation habits that longer peptides bring with them.
Each vial carries a white freeze-dried powder behind a crimped rubber closure. Three residues at this fill leave very little solid behind once the water is gone, so expect a thin deposit or a light dusting across the base rather than a formed cake. That is the normal appearance for the compound and is not evidence that a vial is short.
Storage and reconstitution
Unopened stock sits at −20 °C in a dry, dark cabinet. A tripeptide is more forgiving than a long chain about brief excursions, and a refrigerator is acceptable where a vial will be drawn on within a short period, but unopened stock belongs in the freezer. Room temperature is not a plan for material that will sit for months, whatever the size of the molecule.
It dissolves at once in sterile water and in ordinary aqueous buffers, giving a clear, colourless solution. So little solid is present that some of it may sit on the wall of the vial rather than at the base. Hold the dissolved material cool, away from strong light, and split it between aliquots so that no single vial is subjected to repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Buying questions
Why is there so little visible material in a KPV vial?
Because a tripeptide occupies very little volume once the water has gone. What you see is a film or a scatter of solid across the base rather than a disc. It is the expected appearance at this fill and does not indicate an underfilled vial; the certificate, not the eye, is what confirms content.
Do KPV vials and a KPV-containing blend count together toward one tier?
No. They are separate lines and each reaches its break on its own count. A blend is quoted as a single line whatever it contains, so a hundred blend vials do not advance the single-compound KPV line, and it does not work the other way round either. The pricing page shows how the breaks are applied.
How many KPV vials does it take to place an order?
The order minimum is 100 vials in any mix, sold in kits of ten, so ten kits of KPV clears it on its own and so does one kit of KPV beside nine kits of anything else. Reaching a price break is a separate question that depends on the KPV count by itself.
What should a dissolved KPV vial look like?
Clear and colourless, with nothing in suspension and no film left on the glass. Dissolution is essentially immediate. Anything cloudy, tinted or slow to clear is worth photographing and reporting with the lot number before anything further is unpacked.
